The Department of Environmental Science started in the academic session 2004-05 with M. Sc. Course in Environmental Science in regular mode. Subsequently the Department started M. Phil. programme in Self-Financing mode from the academic session 2006-07. The Department also offers Ph. D. programme in Environmental Science following the UGC guidelines. A skill-based value-added course for the P.G. students entitled “Industrial Safety Management” has been introduced by the Department from the academic session 2021-22. Besides having computer and internet facilities, the Department is also equipped with sophisticated equipment like Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS), Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Spectroquant, Orion Ion Analyzer, Flame Photometer, etc. along with facilities for water monitoring and environmental biotechnology. The faculty members are committed to producing trained manpower with the skills of managing the environment, both at regional and national levels. Besides teaching the faculty members are also actively engaged in research in the areas of environmental monitoring, waste management, resource conservation, environmental remediation, etc.

• The Vision of the Department is to emerge as a potential Center of Excellence in the field of ‘Environmental Science Education and Research’, disseminating and improving knowledge for environmental protection.
